ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Urban Habitats Forum Fellows Programme is designed to provide talented students and young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 with an interest in urban issues with financial sponsorship covering their delegate fees to attend the 1st Habitat Summit.

Young professionals include but are not limited to – real estate professionals, architects, journalists, development professionals, policy makers and social entrepreneurs. We also strongly encourage students from the liberal arts, management, engineering and IT related fields.

THE PROCESS
Applicants are required to complete the application form (which includes a personal bio, 4 essay questions and a most recently updated CV).

The selection committee will review all completed applications and select 300 Fellows for the 1st Habitat Summit, 2009 programme. Selected candidates will be notified on or before the 15th of September and will be awarded financial sponsorship covering the delegate fees to attend the 1st Habitat Summit.

ELIGIBILITY
There are no restrictions on becoming a Fellow, except that nominees must be between 18 and 35 years of age. Students and young professionals from all backgrounds can apply to the Fellows Programme. Young professionals include but are not limited to - journalists, development professionals, policy makers and social entrepreneurs. We also strongly encourage students from the liberal arts, management, engineering and IT related fields.

What is expected from an applicant is an interest in city/ community development. Whilst an applicant need not necessarily have a technical background in urban planning or architecture, applicants will be reviewed basis their perspective and ideas around living, working and playing in the cities they inhabit.

Candidates are strongly recommended to visit the Resource Center section of the website to learn more about the Urban Habitats Forum and the themes it has addressed since its inception.

Set aside an uninterrupted couple of hours to fill out the form. We recommend you look at the application form first, then spend time offline composing your answers in Microsoft Word or a similar word-processing program. Keep an offline copy, in case of a broken connection or other error. Urban Habitats forum cannot be responsible for text that gets lost.

FAQ
Q: What is the UHF Fellows Programme?
A:The UHF Fellows Programme was established to enable quality students and young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 to attend the 1st Habitat Summit. Through an application and selection process, chosen Fellows will be linked to benefactor donors and organisations.

Q: How do I apply for the UHF Fellows Programme?
A: The application process consists of an online application form with requirements of a personal bio and four questions to which all applicants must respond. The application for the UHF Fellows Programme can be found by clicking here.

Q: Who can apply?
A: Any motivated student or young professional between the ages of 18 and 35 is encouraged to apply. All applications are welcome and will receive equal consideration and review from the selection committee. No one specialisation of study is necessarily preferred, as we are looking for a multi-disciplinary group of Fellows to attend the conference.

Q: How are Fellows Selected?
A: Fellows will be selected by a panel consisting of senior consultants from Mirabilis Advisory and the Sustainable Planet Institute. Applications will be judged on quality of thought, insight and level of interest demonstrated in the theme and intended outcomes of the 1st Habitat Summit.

Q: How many Fellows will be selected?
A: 300 fellows from across the world will be selected to attend the 1st Habitat Summit.

Q: When is the application deadline?
A: The application deadline for the Fellows program is September 10, 2009.

Q: When will I learn of the status of my application?
A. On or before 15th September 2009

Q: What are the expectations of Fellows?
A: Fellows are expected to participate and attend all three days of the 1st Habitat Summit, which will take place from 24-26 September, 2009. Fellows may also attend the Green Careers Fair, Contest and Urban Expo running parallel to the Summit.

Eligibility Criteria
Complete Application
Process includes the following:
  • Duly-filled form
  • The last date for receiving applications is September 10, 2009
  • Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.

Misrepresentation of information in the application will result in immediate disqualification.

Privacy Policy: All information disclosed in the application will be treated as confidential and will be used for internal review and communication purposes only. We will not share your information with a third party. References are also submitted in complete confidence.

During the Fellowship
All Fellows must attend all conference events. Late arrival and early departure from the conference are grounds for dismissal.

Any behavior that could bring discredit to the 1st Habitat Summit Fellows Program will provide grounds for immediate dismissal from the program. Mirabilis Advisory will be the sole arbitrator of such a decision.

Conference attendance is non-transferable. If a Fellow is unable to attend a conference session/ the conference, no one may attend in the Fellow's place.

All pre-conference and conference related events are intended for Fellows and conference attendees only. We cannot accommodate spouses, children or friends.

Failure to attend the conference without notice will result in immediate removal from the program. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Mirabilis Advisory does not cover any incidental expenses.

Fees
The delegate fee of the 1st Habitat Summit is INR 15,000 (nett of service tax). Selected fellows shall have their entire delegation fees underwritten by the Urban Habitats Forum. Your acceptance to the Fellowship Programme presupposes your attendance at the 1st Habitat Summit for all 3 days from Sep 24-26. Should you be unable to attend, we request you to inform us within 1 week of the Summit starting date (10am, September 24), failing which, you are liable to pay the delegation fee in full.
