Be Part of the Transition by Participating in India's Largest GREEN JOBS FAIR

INTRODUCTION

With delayed monsoons, new MOEF and MNRE Ministers, and Hillary Clinton’s visit, issues surrounding Climate Change have gained momentum in India. While raising awareness and addressing key challenges and solutions remain priorities, it is time to take action to move India’s growth trajectory squarely in the direction of sustainability.

Rapidly evolving job opportunities demand skill sets in environmental sustainability, and traditional jobs need to be re-imagined to support the emerging Green economy. To meet this demand, students and other job seekers must be made aware of the rewarding career opportunities in selecting environmental courses and trainings. Concurrently, education institutions and policy makers must ensure that educational infrastructure supports the training needs of this workforce.

The Green Jobs Fair will kickstart a national movement to promote awareness and action for supporting a Green economic revolution. It has been promoted by The Climate Project-India and the Sierra Club, who will be joined by a coalition of partners representing a spectrum of civil society and business.

WHAT IS A GREEN JOB?

A green job is one that helps bring about and maintain a transition to environmentally sustainable forms of production and consumption. Whether it is an architect helping design energy efficient buildings, a rural woman practicing sustainable farming, or a plumber installing water-recycling systems, they are part of the change required to green the economy. Every job has the potential to be a green job if it redefines business as usual in favour of more sustainable practices. We seek to raise public awareness about new jobs in this field and inspire change in existing jobs such that the economy as a whole is moving towards a sustainable future.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

The Green Jobs Fair will connect employers with green jobs and job seekers with green values.

As consumers, employees, and other stakeholders worldwide become more environmentally conscious, the importance of positioning companies as “Green” is becoming increasingly vital. Therefore, we propose to bring the supply side of the green economy – comprised of India’s students and young professionals - and demand side – India’s green employers - together.

The Green Jobs Fair has three objectives:

  • Make students and job seekers aware of the real and growing careers available in the sector
  • Demonstrate to key employers in the country that some of the best students and employees are seeking careers in this space
  • Make Vice Chancellors, university leaders, and government officials aware of the potential of this sector and the urgent need to provide education that supports it

The Green Jobs Fair will have the following elements:

  • Display stalls where organisations can market their green careers
  • Talks by individuals who have built careers in sustainability in a variety of fields
  • A public and private session with government officials and various Vice Chancellors to talk about the need for Green curriculums
