Vikas Marg

By Vikas Pawar

“Vikas Marg” is an idea about reviving one of the principal trunk roads of Delhi. Vikas Marg connects Central Delhi with East Delhi and also has a Metro track running through it connecting Yamuna Bank Metro Station to Anand Vihar in the east. However, in spite of being a key road, it is fraught with problems of congestion, encroachment, poor pedestrian infrastructure (with minimal foot over bridges and poorly maintained subways that are hardly used), garbage disposal, open urinals, poor drainage system and poor management of rush hour traffic. Presented in the form of a short film, this entry looked at overhauling the entire road system by giving it a ‘street bazaar’ character with wide pedestrian and cycling pathways, parking and three broad lanes in the centre for the traffic. It also made suggestions for improving rush hour traffic management and setting up dedicated elevated cycle track along the Metro track.
