Abstract: The Global Wind Energy Council’s report
shows that India has slipped one notch down to fifth position
in wind power generation; this should cause concern and
stimulate a suitable response to restore the healthy growth of
this sector. The country cannot afford any laxity in
harnessing renewable sources of energy when energy security is
a live issue and the use of conventional, mostly
environment-unfriendly, fuels for power production is required
to be curtailed because of concerns about provoking climate
